ATE DARLENE

Let me deviate for a moment from Gladdys, (sorry, Gladdys) and write about someone in UJP named Ate Darlene Ramos. Ate Darlene is one of my favorite members in UJP (of course, besides Gladdys (ever the closet eccentric) and Kuya Jerald. And I have (only now, tsk tsk) visited her web site.

And she collects BOOKS. SECOND-HAND BOOKS.

...

Me? I'm ALLERGIC TO BOOKS. Especially when they're Book Sale books. The old dusty ones. I myself freaking wonder at why I entered Journalism in the first place. I hate books. I hate films. I hate prose and everything thicker than "The Elements of Style." I hate them.

And yet Ate Darlene has added that thing to me which could change my life forever: Fantasy Novels.

Yup. Fantasy novels. My type. That's why I bear to read the Harry Potter books for hours on end. Now that Ate Darlene's tempted me to read books, I think I'll start something tonight.

Now to pick up my roommate's Angela's Ashes...

Thank you Ate Darlene. You just might have introduced me to the world of reading. ^_^

TEMPERANCE

~Are you currently mad at someone?
-yes, I always am mad at someone...

~Which of your friends has the worst temper?
-Kit, if it happens. We have the same kind of temper. His is volatile, though, unlike mine.

~What's the meanest thing you've ever done?
-ay, mabait akong bata, eh...

~Have you ever thrown something at anyone?
-Yah. But no details, please.

~Does your face turn red when ur angry?
-Oo naman.

~When ur mad do you prefer to stare angrily or
yell and scream?
-I strike the person/animal/thing, unless it could damage my career.

~Has anyone ever threw you a suprise party?
-ala e.

~Are you easily excited?
-Yeah, because I get excited with new things, and change is the only constant thing in this world. And that's why I try it (the new thing) out before the novelty wears off.

~What event is coming up that your most excited
about?
-Um, the induction of the members, assuming I get to pass my position paper on time.

~Which of your friends is most interesting?
-Marphil. He is a novelty with every new day.

~If you won a million dollars what would be your
first thought?
-I POD!!! 40 GB!!!

~If you could have anything right now what would
it be?
-see preceding question

~Full Name?
-Masakatsu Fragata-Gorospe Saito-Kakuta. Keri n'yo yun?

~Where were you born?
-Manila

~What's your main goal in life?
-To make millions of moolah...

~What do you value more friends or family?
-I say my family even though friends treat me better.

~Do you want to have children?
-Of course! But after I get rich, of course.

xXGreen:OpinionsXx

~Sex before marriage?
-Ooooooh.... not. I don't plan on becoming Korean, thank you.

~Gay Marriage?
-That's a sensitive one. If I air my opinions here someone will react like lithium to water.

~Lowering the drinking age?
-Sure, as long as the drinks are not above 25 proof.

~Suicide?
-suicidal persons (like one I know) are not my type. Life has a lot to offer. And I believe that there is no problem big enough that G. San Miguel cannot alleviate.:P

~Death Penalty?
-what do you say we lynch them hard and good? :D

~Abortion?
-I believe in safe sex. In some cases, though, where the mother is at physical risk, I think it is a lesser evil.

~Recycling?
*ALL OUT, dude.

xXBlue:DreamsXx

~What was your latest dream?
-Nalalaglag ako galing sa langit.

~Which of your friends do you dream about the
most?
-The one that wields the strongest charms o'er me, of course.:D

~Have any of your dreams come true?
-Wala pa. Puro sila fantastic, eh.

~Do you usually remember your dreams?
-About a night in a month.

~What was the weirdest dream you've ever
had?
-see an earlier post.

~What was the best dream?
-I was... nah. :P

xXPurple:LoveXx

~Are you straight, gay (lesbian), bisexual,
pansexual, asexual?
-straight, though I come across to people as gay. People have the bad habit of labeling everyone everything, you know.

~Do you have a boyfriend/girlfriend?
-none. Though I do wish.

~Do you have a crush?
-Yup.

~Who was your first kiss with?
-Ni pumatol nga wala kiss pa kaya?

~Who is the best "hugger" that you know?
-none

~Do you believe in love at first sight?
-No. I believe in getting to know the person fully.

And with that last question,

NEGA

[song on my mind] -- weak by swv

film watched last tuesday -- citizen kane

korean film watched last friday -- sex is zero

There are some films that leave a feeling of negativity in me that sticks so good I need a steel wool to remove it. And Citizen Kane is one of them. The film is an Encyclopedic Film of All Films, a baptism of film that all modern filmmakers go through in their rites of passage. It is so absolute that when a filmmaker makes a film it either emulates Kane's or it avoids it. Good thing I am not a filmmaker. I hate having to fully emulate something. Or fully avoid something.

But back to it's being nega (to borrow a term from Marphil). It left an emotional scar on me that I can't explain what. I tried. I had a night trying to figure out just what Rosebud really is. I guess it was the childhood that Kane never had. I guess that had his mother decided not to send him to a boarding school, he would never have gotten to the point of all this madness. But the scriptwriters of the film had to take from the lives of various magnates of the period, and so Charles Foster Kane's life had to suffer such trivialities in his life. The semiotics are not enough to fully explain this film. And it is because it is a film that cannot be fully explained, that it irritatingly clings to my mindset as a negative film. I need an industrial-strength steel wool of a film theory to wipe the negativity of the film off my mind.

UBUNTU LINUX

note to self: blogger sites to visit -- alohanbsplace, pernicketypinkypink

The Math department changed the Operating System of the Student Assistants's PC to a version of Linux called Ubuntu Linux. The system is not really as easy to learn as Mandrake Linux, more because Ubuntu was built UNLIKE Windows OSs. There was the menu at the top of the screen, and there was a handy button at the lower left for hiding all the windows and displaying the desktop. There were also some things at the lower right, like the multiple desktops that Linux developers are so fond of. At the start it was hard to find my way around the filesystem of the OS, mainly because everything at the desktop was simplified. No one icon ever told anything about its contents. Though in terms of it's being customizable it scored very high with me. There was the beautiful Phosphor screensaver that I sorely wanted when we were using Mandrake Linux. There was the place for the wallpaper. There was the place for my personal folder, right on one of the desktop buttons. There was...

And the Mozilla Firefox, it's web browser, was only so customizable. Hey, I sound like a geek here already. Better not get myself detected... :P

There were only some shortcomings that I noticed in Ubuntu. Once I had installed a wallpaper, it becomes global and all of my desktops have the same wallpaper. Actually all of my customizations become global(meaning within the user). And I don't like it actually. I don't get to have my own within the user 'SA'. Hmpf.

All in all, I give the Ubuntu an 8.5 out of 10. It still has some shortcomings, and leaves yet much to be desired.

THERE GOES ANOTHER CHILD GONE ASTRAY

And I should be reviewing for my Lingg 110 exam tomorrow, but for the moment, I spite all that. The night is still young; I still have to do my research for the position paper I am about to pass Wednesday.

I am thinking of immersing myself in some more pre-enlisting, but then again, my UP account's been opened much too much already. It's time to give the lottery a break.

LESSON LEARNED

I just learned today that if I want people to like me, I should learn to stay on the line. I need to keep both my feet inside the circle. I need to lick the ass of every person I meet. I need to be a plasticine-like person for more likeability. I need to be customizable. I need to throw away the pasaway attitude. I need to remove the individuality that I feel everytime. I need to be not natural. I need to not annoy people anymore. I need to 'improve' a lot of things. I need to...

NEW BACKGROUND!

To make it harder on the eyes of my dear readers, who probably read this by the end of the day, I have changed this into an island AT SUNSET. It still is an island and is therefore consistent with my theme of islands, but I chose red because I am so into the color right now. I am red because I feel militancy in my veins. I am red because I feel love in my heart right now. I am red because I am mad at someone. I am red because my eyes are swollen right now. I am red because... er, case in point stated.

But seriously, red AND blue are my favorite colors. It is for me an interesting thing because they are at the opposite sides of the spectrum. It is consistent with an inconsistent me. :D

So dear readers, enjoy the new background! ^_^

By the way, if you really, REALLY are serious about your (newfound? dunno) love for violent movies, you might want to try the Japanese movie "Battle Royale". Or for something stronger, try "Audition". The people at the tambayan simply LURRRRRRVE it. Sublime. Ask Kuya Kirk. Astig talaga.

Nga pala, the CRS starts today. You might want to try it out, but tomorrow. I guess you're much too celebrating to pre-enlist. |P

LA'O HATE VIBES

From the looks of it, Vice Chancellor for Community Affairs Ida May La'O is being sent a lot of hate vibes right now. The eviction of UP Manininda from their comfortable places, the establishment of unreasonably-priced food stalls around the Academic Oval, and now the eviction of the Pook Palaris residents are grounds for the (now) mass production and propagation of these hate vibes. But let's assume for a moment that she was just following orders; still the burden falls upon her shoulders. But looking at her picture, it is easy to see why she could be a much-hated person. :P

ALITAPTAP

[film watched today] -- the whale rider

The Whale Rider

Finally! The trainees' batch of UJP-UP 1st sem 2005-2006 has a name! It's name is ALITAPTAP. And though in no way would I agree with this batch name, I could not object, because the names that I had in mind were lame themselves. (Take the case, for example, of dagitab, which means 'electricity', or buhawi, which is 'tornado'. I even suggested the name 'Chua', because we were matinik. Hehe.) And so, therefore, I had to resort to obliging the fancy of my batchmates.

...Oh good night, now, I still have to review the constitution... wish me luck tomorrow on my batch interview, okay? ^_^

TO MY UJP-UP BUDDY GLADDYS 4

Call me paranoid, but I feel everyone in UJP-UP is waging a temporary psywar against me and my feeble mind. It's like I'm in hell, only I do not know the reason why I am there in the first place. On the eve of the batch interview, one can think of many things that do not usually arise in one's mind. I know that this will go away after the interview, but as for now, this drives me crazy. I haven't even TOUCHED the constitution yet; I have only memorized the preamble thru practice with my batchmates. With the solo interview I was confident that I would go through it okay, but through this psywar my nerves have never been more rattled in my whole life. I feel I will screw up and say "Stephanie Acibar" like one of my batchmates did. The org members's freaking psywaves are going through me like thread to needle. Oh I don't know what to do...

HIATUS 1

There are only so many things that I'd like to write about, but not now. There are a whole lot of papers I have to type, and it pains me just to think about them. Come to think of it, were it not for the difficulty of Engineering subjects, my life in Engineering would be a bliss: no paperwork, no film-viewing, no fieldwork, and I get to fool around with apparati. But what's done is done now, and you do not achieve something(the thing you like very much) without giving up something(the effort to achieve it). That is the Principle of Equivalent Trade in Alchemy. :)

...SILENCE, THAT WONDERFUL SOUND...

The day started with a vision of me in a condo unit in Saitama, just waking up from another hectic day and into anoter hectic day. I lazed around for a bit, and then picked up my towel and soap and shampoo and underwear and headed for the shower.

Everything went fine, till Frederick locked the door of the room.

+>:O

The guard had no spare key. The manong, who held the last key, was not there. Micx and Datu were in their ES 11 class. So what was a person like me to do? PANIC.

Good thing there was Kuya JayR Dayao. I had to borrow twenty pesos from him. I also had to deposit my soggy towel and soap dish and shampoo in his room. I had to borrow a pair of pants from him, which for me was ill-adjusted to the ergonomics of my thighs. Now they looked like MY capri pants. *sweat drops*

I went to the ED of UJP-UP, all without the applicants' logbook, without the proper look, without the contact lenses, without the nicey-nicey attitude that will ususally accompany me, and without the proper oral hygiene. Yuck. Dugyot. Result: more volatile temper, the same t-shirt as yesterday, and a desire to kill Frederick Orpiano.

Then after the ED was the lunch at CASAA. I saw someone I shouldn't see, and now I'm all giddy and in circles.

That's why I remembered a song by Dido, the song "Thank You."

Keep bangin' on the wall
Keep bangin' on the wall
OF FORTRESS EUROPE!

2022 - A new European order
Robot guards patrolling the border
Cybernetic dogs are getting closer and closer
Armoured cars and immigration officers
A burning village in Kosovo
You bombed it out now you're telling us go home
Machine guns strut on the cliffs of Dover
Heads down people look out! We're going over
Burnin up! Can we survive re-entry
Past the mines and the cybernetic sentries
Safe european homes built on wars
You don't like the effect don't produce the cause
The chip is in your head not on my shoulder
Total control just around the corner
Open up the floodgates Time's nearly up
Keep banging on the wall of Fortress Europe
Keep banging
Keep banging on the wall of Fortress Europe

We got a right, know the situation
We're the children of globalization
No borders only true connection
Light the fuse of the insurrection
This generation has no nation
Grass roots pressure the only solution
We're sitting tight
Cos assylum is a right
Put an end to this confusion
Dis is a 21st century Exodus
Dis is a 21st century Exodus
Burnin' up can we suvive re-entry
Past the landmines and cybernetic sentries
Plane, train, car, ferry boat or bus
The future is bleeding coming back at us
The chip is in your head not on my shoulder
Total control around the corner
Open up the floodgates Time's nearly up
Keep banging on the wall of Fortress Europe
Keep banging

Dis is a 21st century Exodus

THANK YOU

Dido

My tea's gone cold, I'm wondering why
I got out of bed at all
The morning rain clouds up my window
and I can't see at all
And even if I could it'd all be grey,
but your picture on my wall
It reminds me that it's not so bad,
it's not so bad

I drank too much last night, got bills to pay,
my head just feels in pain
I missed the bus and there'll be hell today,
I'm late for work again
And even if I'm there, they'll all imply
that I might not last the day
And then you call me and it's not so bad,
it's not so bad and

I want to thank you
for giving me the best day of my life
Oh just to be with you
is having the best day of my life

Push the door, I'm home at last
and I'm soaking through and through
Then you hand me a towel
and all I see is you
And even if my house falls down,
I wouldn't have a clue
Because you're near me and

I want to thank you
for giving me the best day of my life
Oh just to be with you
is having the best day of my life

THAT INSATIABLE CRS CRAVING

The Computerized Registration System or CRS holds a particular charm for me; it is the wonder of calculating and risk taking that makes me so much addicted to it. There are only so many factors that one can think of in placing your bets(I mean, your subjects). Of course I can elaborate about the system; the algorithm was already explained to me in somewhat less-than-clear detail, but at least I have a grasp of how the CRS works.

Here are the subjects I plan to take the next semester, which I will enter into the server come September 19:

Comm 120: The Law on the Mass Media. 3u.
Comm 140: Mass Communication Theory. 3u.
J 100: History of the Press. 3u.
J 102: News Reporting. 3u.
J 192: Journalism Ethics. 3u.
BC 100: Introduction to Broadcasting. 3u.
Econ 100.1: Introduction to Macroeconomic Theory and Policy. 3u.
PE 2 JU: A Variety of Elective Physical Education Activities for Beginners. (2u.)
CWTS 1: Civic Welfare Training Service, Module 1 (3u.)

How's that for a 21-unit load this coming semester? ^_^ But the CRS allows only 20 units to be pre-enlisted. Therefore I will have to exclude J 192. It doesn't matter if I get it or not next semester. There's still plenty of time to take that up, anyway. ^_^Actually I planned to take up Lingg 115, but am still having second thoughts. Ma'am Cepe IS a good-luck-to-you-Sam type of person, as Ma'am Ria Parsram said, but I enjoyed Lingg 110 with her, so...

Also, I hear that Ma'am Solita "Winnie" Monsod is the one who teaches the lecture class of Econ 100.1. Scary...

Well, that's all for now. ^_^

Here comes the Arao, here comes the Arao,

Little darling, it's been a long cold lonely winter
Little darling, it feels like years since it's been here
Here comes the Arao, here comes the Arao
and I say it's all right

Little darling, the smiles returning to the faces
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been here
Here comes the Arao, here comes the Arao
and I say it's all right

Arao, Arao, Arao, here it comes...
Arao, Arao, Arao, here it comes...
Arao, Arao, Arao, here it comes...
Arao, Arao, Arao, here it comes...
Arao, Arao, Arao, here it comes...

Little darling, I feel that ice is slowly melting
Little darling, it seems like years since it's been clear
Here comes the Arao, here comes the Arao,
and I say it's all right
It's all right

e ano ngayon?

Am the Head of the Department of Poisons and Antidotes of the College of Substances, also doubling as the chief of the Apothecary for the Department of the National Defense. Ahem.

BUT SERIOUSLY

Am a 4th year University of the Philippines student, but currently am a non-major in the College of Mass Communication. I can write, but am really unsure of whether I write well. This is a somewhat faithful version of what I keep in my paper diaries. And yes, I DO write my diaries MANUALLY. I've already filled up thirty-three Papemelroti notebooks, and am on my thirty-four. I love to eat, and boy, my diet sure can pack the pounds on even Palito. I now am planning to reduce weight, but will execute after the hell weeks are over. :D Am planning to shift to either BS Economics or BS Statistics. Wish me luck! :D

I WILL BE HERE FOR YOU
Michael W. Smith

When you feel the sunlight
Fade into the cold night
Don't know where to turn
I don't know where to turn

And all the dreams you're dreaming
Seem to lose their meaning
Let me in your world
Baby, let me in your world

All you need is someone you can hold
Don't be sad, you're not alone

Chorus:
I will be here for you
Somewhere in the night
Somewhere in the night
I'll shine a light for you
Somewhere in the night
I'll be standing by
I will be here for you

In this world of strangers
Of cold unfriendly faces
Someone you can trust
Oh there's someone you can trust

I will be your shelter
I'll give you my shoulder
Just reach out for my love
Reach out for my love

Call my name and my heart will hear
I will be there, there's nothing to fear

Repeat Chorus REASON TO BELIEVE
Rod Stewart

If I listened long enough to you
Id find a way to believe that its all true
Knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe

Someone like you makes it hard to live without
Somebody else
Someone like you makes it easy to give
Never think about myself

If I gave you time to change my mind
Id find a way just to leave the past behind
Knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe

If I listened long enough to you
Id find a way to believe that its all true
Knowing that you lied straight-faced while I cried
Still I look to find a reason to believe

Someone like you makes it hard to live without
Somebody else
Someone like you makes it easy to give
Never think about myself
